I had the pleasure of just completing a week long residency at Spark Box Studioearly this November. I cannot say enough about Chrissy and Kyle and the amazing environment they have created for Artists. This place is my literal vintage artsy wet dream. (thats right, I went there).
Not only did the week become dedicated time for my own practice and thought process, it was filled with great conversation, food, music and love but don't touch pup visits. I got to share the week with two amazing printmakers from the United States Christina Bartonicek and Mariah Pfeiffer - we all shared a love for vintage pattern, old hip-hop, beer and a lack-of photoshop skills.
As a mom with two lovely, but busy, children I there isn't much dedicated quiet time to think through my practice. Working in small bits never leaves room to really question what you're doing, why you're doing it. Spark Box Studio allowed me to really spend time with myself and my ideas. My practice NEEDED it. I discovered flaws and unanswered questions that need to be addressed.
I am now in the process of looking at those questions and trying to work through them. My work will be stronger and so will I as an artist.
